For Astreo, sustainability is not an accessory concept, but a core guiding principle that informs both the scientific goals of its projects and the way the team operates on a daily basis.
Guiding Principles
Green Policy
ASTREO is an interdisciplinary, student-led aerospace R&D team focused on space debris and the long-term sustainability of Earth’s orbital environment. Sustainability is a core principle that informs both our scientific goals and our day-to-day operations.
Our commitment
ASTREO commits to integrating environmental responsibility into decision-making across research, prototyping, events, and partnerships. We adopt a practical hierarchy: avoid unnecessary impacts, reduce what cannot be avoided, reusematerials and equipment whenever feasible, and consider offsetting only for residual impacts.
How we apply it
We promote responsible use of shared spaces and energy, digital-first documentation to reduce paper use, careful procurement that prioritizes durability, repairability, and reuse, and mobility choices that favor lower-impact transport whenever possible. In laboratories and prototyping, we aim for lean iteration, waste minimization, and compliance with applicable safety and environmental procedures.
Governance and improvement
This policy applies to all ASTREO members and collaborators involved in ASTREO activities. We support internal awareness, transparent communication, and periodic review to continuously improve our practices and avoid greenwashing.
